Men's Club Upcoming Events

Men's Club

The Men’s Club of Adath Israel is an exciting organization where the joy of Jewish living is made accessible and relevant to men of all ages. Our objective is to foster and further the highest ideals of Judaism, as expressed through the synagogue and to promote closer relationships among its members.

During the fall High Holiday season, Men's Club volunteers help to construct the Sukkah on the synagogue's front lawn.   Then, on Shabbat during Chol Hamoed Sukkot, we hold a dinner in the Sukkah which is open to the congregation.

On Sunday mornings throughout the year, Men's Club holds Sunday morning brunches, featuring a variety of speakers and topics. All are welcome to join for learning and a delicious meal, cooked by Men's Club volunteers! During the Chanukah season, we hold a special latke brunch. Later in the winter, Men's Club sponsors a Sunday brunch in which the speaker is the year's Scholar in Residence.

We finish our year with the Seymour Barlas Dinner. All are welcome to enjoy steak, fish, or a vegetarian meal along with an entertaining speaker. In 2019, we hosted comedian Brad Trackman. In 2018, we held a panel discussion with Eagles beat writers Jeff McLane and Zach Berman, moderated by former 6ABC reporter Amy Buckman.

Throughout the year, members gather offsite to schmooze. Past outings have included trips to see the Phillies play at Citizens Bank Park as well as social events at Manayunk Brewing Company, The Greeks, and Iron Hill Brewery.

Conceptually, our goals include integrating and advancing the institutions within Adath Israel, promoting a more thorough knowledge and appreciation of Jewish life, engaging and strengthening member participation in the life of our congregation, stimulating social and cultural activities among our members and the community, and training knowledgeable leaders for Adath Israel and the Jewish community.
