THE MITZVAH MAKERS OF ADATH ISRAEL

Mitzvah Makers is the community outreach arm of Adath Israel. Whether it is sending home-cooked meals to an ailing congregant or co-founding/sponsoring AI's participation in the community service day on MLK's birthday, Mitzvah Makers represents the social conscious and soul of our community.

SPECIAL PROGRAM
Bubbi says, let's cook some soup!
Jewish Mama Soup-a-Rama, a soup-cooking mitzvah that benefits the Cook For a Friend program, now (from now until April) a citywide program, thanks to the Jewish Federation. Visit www.souparama.com to find out more!

REGULAR MITZVAH PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS
  • The Mitzvah Food Pantry
Food collections continue to support the Mitzvah Food Pantry in Overbrook Park. Please bring in a bag of non-perishable food or personal care items and drop it in the grocery cart in the lobby. Remember, the shopping cart in the foyer is always ready to accept your food dropoffs!

  • The "Cook For a Friend" Program
Prepare 100 Meals for the Homebound. Join us as we prepare 100 scrumptuous meals for homebound in need. This is a fun, worthwhile and gratifying morning, from 9 AM to 12 Noon. Check the website and calendar for dates. We need people to cook, shop (list provided) and deliver (one stop in the Northeast). If you would like to help, please contact the office at 610-934-1919.

  • Tzedakah of the Month
The money collected in the Mitzvah Makers Tzedakah Boxes benefit local charities. We publish the monthly charity and collection results in the monthly bulletin.

  • Mitzvah Week
We sponsor a week of mitzvah programs centering around Purim --our goal is to have synagogue-wide participation in these programs.

  • The more people become involved with the Mitzvah Makers, the more we can achieve. Unlike so many other situations in your lives, we are asking only for your time. Help Mitzvah Makers by getting involved.

The goal of the Adath Israel Mitzvah Makers committee is to insure that the performance of mitzvot becomes a visible and permanent part of the culture of Adath Israel as a way to benefit the local community, educate our children about doing mitzvot and promote the value of membership in our synagogue. Activities include:

    • Year-round food collection for local people in need
    • Preparing meals for the needy (during holidays and times of difficulty)
    • Representation and participation in the Martin Luther King Day of Service
    • Communicating with and supporting congregants during milestone events (simchas, illness and loss)
    • Helping to facilitate mitzvah projects for our members (children and adults)
    • "Mitzvah of the Month" projects to benefit a variety of special needs individuals and groups
